Empowering healthy eating habits for school students

Pilbara Minerals has signed a three-year partnership with Foodbank WA to deliver a hands-on nutrition education and cooking program to empower school students to build life skills that support healthy eating.

The nom! Schools program, which aims to improve the nutrition and developmental outcomes for WA kids, is possible thanks to funding from Pilbara Minerals and Mineral Resources. Foodbank WA nutritionists will be delivering sessions at 40 schools across Perth, Pilbara, Geraldton and Bunbury each year through the program.

Pilbara Minerals Chief Operating Officer Vince De Carolis said the Company was proud to support an initiative that will make a difference to the health and wellbeing of thousands of West Australian kids.

“Good nutrition is important for children’s overall wellbeing including school attendance and learning as well as prevention of chronic health conditions,” Vince said.

“This is a great example of the resources sector partnering on a community initiative to make a difference in the world. We’re looking forward to seeing the program travel to regional WA, including the Pilbara, to reach some of the state’s most vulnerable communities.”

Foodbank WA CEO Kate O’Hara said the program was all about empowering kids to make healthy food choices for life.

“Foodbank WA has delivered empowering nutrition education programs for over 17 years with all programs developed by a team of nutritionists and dietitians,” Kate said.

“We are thankful to both Mineral Resources and Pilbara Minerals for their support of nom! Schools enabling us to deliver this important program across Western Australia.”
