Pilbara Minerals makes a difference with new Community Grants Program

A new Community Grants Program supporting grass-roots community initiatives and events in the Pilbara was launched on 11 October 2023 as part of Pilbara Minerals’ commitment to making a difference in the world.

The program aims to provide support to community organisations that make the Pilbara a great place to live and work.

Pilbara Minerals’ Chief Sustainability Officer, Sandra McInnes launched the new Community Grants Program at the Pilbara 2023 Summit in Karratha.

“As a business, we are incredibly proud to be in a position to establish an annual grants program that will have a positive impact on our local communities,” Ms McInnes said.

The program will fund events and initiatives in priority Pilbara communities that align with Pilbara Minerals’ community investment focus areas – education, community resilience, and energy transition.

The initiative supports Pilbara Minerals’ efforts to contribute to the social and economic prosperity of the communities in which it operates.

“Nobody knows what the Pilbara needs most than the people and communities who live there. We are looking for applications from local clubs, not-for-profits and community organisations that could benefit from funding support,” Ms McInnes said.

“Our Pilgangoora Operation, located south of Port Hedland, has only been in operation for the last five years and therefore Pilbara Minerals is a relatively young company in the context of Australian mining.

“We are excited to add this new avenue of support to the local community. With more than 30 years’ mine life left, we look forward to supporting the local community over the long-term to make a positive impact and contribution.

“We are looking forward to continuing to build strong relationships with the Pilbara community through this program and other future community initiatives.”

Up to $10,000 will be available for community organisations operating in Port Hedland, Strelley, Yandeyarra, and for Pilbara-wide initiatives.

Applications are open now and will close on 10 November 2023. More information and funding application forms are available on the Pilbara Minerals website.
